In July 1974, a research program was initiated by the Portland Cement Association (PCA) under joint sponsorship of the International Lead Zinc Research Organization, Inc., (ILZRO) and the American Hot Dip Galvanizers Association, Inc., (AHDGA) to determine the perfromance of galvanized reinforcing steel in concrete bridge decks exposed to chloride salts.
