Corrosion problems in cooling water systems are more often attributed to dissolved solids, dissolved oxygen, contaminants, ineffective corrosion inhibitors and poor control, however, there is often unexplained, rapid and severe corrosion that cannot be easily explained particularly when good corrosion inhibitors are utilized. This corrosion may be related to microbiological organisms. If it is, often it can be identified when one knows what to look for.
