Electric utility organizations have given little attention over the years to stray-current corrosion. This may be because of favorable experience, with relatively few underground corrosion problems. However, underground corrosion may also have gone unnoticed because the damage was not visible. Electrical engineers generally do not have education or experience in corrosion testing and corrosion control. This adds to the probability that corrosion will not be noticed.
