The Cerro Prieto, Mexico, geothermal field represents the first successful large scale development of geothermal power from a hydro-thermal resource on the North American continent. This field is located in the Salton-Mexicali Trough 3 5 Km south of Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico. It is a water-dominated geothermal field where a 75 MW geothermal power plant has been operating since 1973, culminating two decades of work in the geothermal field in Mexico (1).
