Impressed current groundbed materials and techniques have been greatly improved since the early days of the corrosion engineer. As a direct result of these improvements, the useful life of a cathodic protection groundbed has been significantly increased. However, there is still a major unsolved problem which plagues the industry by causing premature groundbed failures. These failures are a result of a phenomena known as end effect.
