Plastic tapes were introduced to the pipeline industry as pipeline coatings more than 25 years ago. Since then the worldwide consumption of plastic tape pipeline coatings has grown to the point that plastic tapes are used yearly on more than 50% of all new underground pipeline projects. The rate of growth in the use of plastic tape coatings was slow but steady through the first 10 to 15 years but more recently the rate of growth of plastic tapes as pipeline coating has accelerated rapidly.
