Why worry about potentiodynamic corrosion studies, they can be expensive and time consuming? The answers are: this approach can give quicker answers to many corrosion problems, more certain answers to many corrosion problems, and it is the only way to solve several kinds of corrosion problems. The corrosion engineer needs every possible tool at his disposal. Since the mechanism of most corrosion is electrochemical, potentiodynamic polarization is one of the most powerful of these tools. It is well worth the time, trouble, and expense to have this kind of test available.
