Corrosion of copper (concentric) neutral wires continues to be a major problem for electric utilities. Each year since it was discovered that neutrals could undergo rapid destructive corrosion there has been a slight increase in the number of corrosion sightings reported. Recently, the number of reports rose sharply. The new rate is far from epidemic levels but numbers are sufficient enough to cause renewed concern.
