Corrosion probes enable the corrosion engineer to do many things which are not possible using coupons. This paper gives several examples of actual cases in which corrosion probes were used for purposes of trouble-shooting corrosive processes, equipment protection, process control, and product quality control. This paper is intended for those who are not familiar with corrosion probes and the techniques of their use. It is hoped that the examples in this paper will illustrate the ease of probe use, how to obtain information from probes which cannot be obtained from coupons, and how to use this information to the best advantage for a variety of purposes.
