Corrosion of various materials exposed and in use at a Pacific missile field installation are considered in this report. The tropical marine environment is severely corrosive with high relative humidity averaging about 80%, annual rainfall totals 100 inches, and average temperatures over the year, range between 80 to 84°F. Prevailing winds carry large amounts of ocean salt spray onto exposed equipment and facilities and for the most part, the outdoor exposed items considered in this report are continuously subjected to combinations of rainfall, high humidity, wind, salt spray, coral dust, bright sunlight, etc., without any protective sheltering.
