Wear of metals by ores is classified into three types -coarse abrasion (crushing), high-stress abrasion (grinding) and low-stress abrasion (erosion). In low-stress abrasion stresses are not sufficiently high to cause much fragmentation of ore. Slurry pipelines, slurry pumps and screens are examples of equipment that undergo this type of wear.
