Bell-Northern Research laboratories are currently developing a new, high capacity, digital long haul transmission system for trans Canada application. This LD-4 system will interconnect the major telecommunications centers in Bell Canada providing a total route capacity of over 20,000 two-way circuits. The digital signal is regenerated at 6000' intervals by line repeaters which are housed in apparatus cases located in manholes. The repeater apparatus case (Figure 1) is cylindrical and uses a V-Band clamp to secure and seal the cover to the base plate. This V-Band clamp (Figure 2) provides quick and easy access to the interior of the apparatus case for rapid installation and/or removal of the line repeaters during maintenance.
