In the design and operation of cathodic protection systems for marine structures, several considerations are often overlooked which have an important bearing on the successful operation of the system. The matters discussed here relate to research studies by students at the University, by the authors and to experience of the authors in the field. The subject will be limited to the cathodic protection of carbon steel structures.
