Since metal pipe was first introduced to the earth for use in wells, oil and gas people have been confronted with the problems of corrosion. For years the problem was more or less ignored due simply to the fact that no existing methods were available to determine if corrosion existed, short of pulling pipe from the well. This, of course, was expensive and sometimes fruitless.
