In the steel plate fabrication industry, shop surface preparations and priming are very prominent for structures ultimately used in industries such as refining or petroleum, chemical, nuclear power, hydro-electric power, water storage, liquefied natural gas (LNG) and many others. Accordingly, the resultant variety of fabrication techniques, construction schedules and exposures along with the final service exposures requires the use of many different shop primers. This of course is a problem for the fabricator as it tends to limit standardization of procedures.
