In recent years, environmental constraints on cooling water blowdown effluent have resulted in the development of several classes of non-chromate-based corrosion inhibitors. Due to the lack of extensive field data concerning the performance of the newer inhibitors under a variety of operating conditions, the need for continuous, sensitive, and reliable means of measuring cooling water corrosion rates has become increasingly important.
