Scale occurs in the oil field commonly as either calcium sulfate or calcium carbonate. However, barium sulfate scale is becoming a formidable problem about which little research is documented. All geographical locations where oil is produced, both in the U.S. and foreign countries, have reported barium sulfate scaling problems.
