Development and laboratory testing of chromate-phosphate mixtures as corrosion inhibitors for steel under distillation desalination conditions was completed and previously reported in Office of Saline Water reports and to various NACE meetings. (1) Evaluation of this promising inhibitor system has continued in small units producing fresh water from seawater at the Materials Test Center of the Office of Saline Water Freeport Test Facility, This paper will report the results to date of the continued testing. These pilot units are capable of producing 2,000 to 3,000 gallons per day of fresh water.
