Benzotriazole has been found to be a good corrosion inhibitor of copper alloys(1). Recently, in this laboratory, the effect of benzotriazole on the rate of the hydrogen evolution reaction on iron(2) and copper(3) in H2SO4 has been investigated. The results indicated that the inhibition of the hydrogen evolution reaction was achieved by precluding hydrogen ion discharge on that part of the metal surface covered with adsorbed benzotriazole.
