Stationary marine structures such as docks, ship berths, bulkheads, platforms, and bridge foundations are subject to corrosion; cathodic protection is frequently an economical means of controlling deterioration. The corrosion engineer must evaluate the economics and practicability of cathodic protection and compare it with other means of protection and with eventual structure repair or replacement.
