A complete study for this subject should involve routine testing in several members of each chemical classification. According to Degering's Outline of Organic Chemistry(1)  there are nineteen classes of organic solvents, six of them being different aliphatic oxygen derivatives. Thus such a study would be practically endless and much of the data of only academic interest. For reasons of practicality, then, this paper will be confined to studies required by day-to-day requests for materials to solve existing problems.
