In 1967, Mobil Oil Corporation and Ford Motor Company combined forces to establish the Inter-Industry Emission Control (IIEC) Program. The goal of the program was to reduce or eliminate undesirable automobile exhaust gas emissions. Other refiners and auto manufacturers were invited to participate and soon five other refiners and four other auto manufacturers joined the group. The participants in the program are listed in Table 1.
