The Office of Saline Water, a branch of the Department of the Interior, is sponsoring a materials program having the following broad objectives:
Determination at "coupon stage" of the effect of water chemistry on the corrosion behavior of alloy families in desalination environments. (Among the variables to be assessed are dissolved oxygen, other dissolved gases, seawater velocity, pH, temperature, water refreshment rate, and concentration.)
Screening of potential alloy candidates for desalting service.
Exploration of new, investigative techniques that can be used to predict alloy performance.
Appraisal of new commercial instrument developments that relate to material evaluation.
