Because of its ease of fabrication and outstanding corrosion, abrasion and dent resistant properties, stainless steel is an excellent material for decorative, automobile trim applications. There is, however, one major problem associated with its use in such applications, that being the occurrence of accelerated rusting of autobodies in areas beneath and immediately adjacent to stainless trim components (Figure 1).
