It has become increasingly important for the corrosion engineer to acquire some knowledge of the economic aspects of his job. This knowledge is required to make possible the prudent selection of protective coatings and other corrosion mitigation systems and to permit him to communicate with his management in a language they understand. It is impossible for the supervisors of any large organization to keep abreast of the latest advancements in corrosion control; or, for that matter, to even understand the jargon common to the corrosion engineers’ specialty. Accordingly, management is inclined to act favorably on those recommendations received from corrosion engineers which are substantiated by favorable profitability calculations.
