All through history men have gone down to the sea in ships. Many of them were held together with copper nails. Today not only do men go down to the sea in ships but down into the sea in submersibles and also utilize the shores of the sea. These endeavors may involve recreation, manufacturing, transportation, exploration, warfare, or whatever imagination and will devise. In every case there is and will be a need to cope with the corrosive environment in and around sea or brackish water.
