Every system designed to prevent stray cunent corrosion uses one or more of the following methods: Insulation, cathodic protection and drainage. Insulation is achieved by electrically isolating a structure completely from earth contact. Cathodic protection employs current from suitably located anodes to a structure causing polarization at a voltage slightly more negative than the open circuit or static voltage of that structure to soil. Drainage is a bond between a structure and a direct cunent source to permit the flow of current from one to the other.
