One of the first methods of monitoring corrosion in oil fields utilized dissolved iron content data. The method was extensively used in the development of systems for controlling oil field corrosion. In “Condensate Well Corrosion”, published1 in 1953, procedures, applications and case histories were cited. Visual and photoelectric comparators were used as portable colorimeters for measuring the dissolved iron content of produced water. Titration procedures were also used in the field and laboratory.
