As a material beryllium may be characterized as a light metal with high strength to weight ratio, high modulus of elasticity, high heat capacity, high characteristic temperature, high melting point, high-high temperature strength, and high scatter cross-section-low capture cross-section for neutrons. In some areas the characterization of the metal is incomplete. One such area is corrosion.
