Ductile iron pipe has developed into a major material of construction for underground pipelines for water and gas service. Annual production in the United States alone approaches 300,000 tons in sizes 2 in through 54 in. Information on the soil corrosion resistance of this material is, therefore, of considerable importance and is the purpose of this paper.
