The corrosion of automobile bodies has aroused public interest and protest over the past few years. It first became a problem in the late 1950’s, and since that time, has caused considerable concern to automobile manufacturers and highway departments. Motorists have associated a large part of this damage with the salting of highways during the winter and, as a result, there is an ever increasing demand for the incorporation of a corrosion inhibitor in the de-icing salt. Before this can be done several questions must be answered regarding the effectiveness of inhibitors and the economics of their use.
