In the design and construction of present day desalination plants, the original equipment manufacturer has a high stake in corrosion and the various factors that affect it. Not only does current specification practice put a very high monitary responsibility on the part of the builder, but also the advertising and public relation aspects of a job well done are almost immeasurable in obtaining future business. In addition to these aspects which place much responsibility on the manufacturer, there are also greater burdens to effectively combat corrosion placed upon the equipment owner and operator. To have a large scale desalination plant which is causing continuous problems with respect to corrosion is not only a great expense in terms of operating dollars but it is also a sometimes completely intolerable situation with respect to the loss of water supply to a complete industry or municipality. The steady, corrosion free operation of a plant which meets the full claims as to quantity and quality of production water is a valuable recommendation for the plant manufacturer as well as a vital necessity for the equipment owner.
