Abstract
Halogen contaminants, particularly chlorine and fluorine, have been recognized as causes of accelerated corrosion in a number of high temperature industrial systems such as waste incinerators and waste heat recuperators on metallurgical furnaces. The mechanisms by which these phenomena occur are reviewed and discussed with the goal of identifying appropriate corrosion control strategies for materials which much operate in these environments.
