Abstract
Within any generic category of railcar exterior coatings, there are significant variations in performance. Therefore, testing is required to select coatings that give the highest performance. Use of outdoor exposure panels produces meaningful results but requires from months to years before results are obtained. Therefore, four common accelerated test methods were evaluated to determine how well their results correlate with the results obtained from outdoor exposure. Loss of gloss was the basis of comparison.
