Corrosion behaviour of high purity aluminum was evaluated by potentiodynamic polarization measurements in 50 % hydrogen peroxide as a function of chloride and nitrate concentrations and in the presence of some amino(alkyl)phosphonates which are widely used as stabilizers against catalytic decomposition for hydrogen peroxide. Chloride ions, already at very low concentrations, induce pitting type corrosion for aluminum. This pitting can be prevented by sufficient additions of nitrate ions. Ammonium nitrate and nitric acid were equally efficient.
