Abstract
Low alloy steels show increasing resistance to HSC with increasing yield strength at hardness values below 250 HV10. At these hardness levels, HSC can occur if H2S partial pressure is in excess of 0.5 kPa (0.005 bar) and the mechanical stress is sufficiently high. In specimens containing welds, the fracture location coincides with the location of maximum hardness only if the hardness is above 350 HV10.
