This paper reviews the application of duplex stainless steels in a number of diverse petrochemical services. The selection process took into account both the excellent mechanical and corrosion properties, but applications were only pursued if they could be economically justified. Emphasis was given to the mechanical properties that can be achieved over a wide range of temperatures (−100°C to 350°C) which resulted in significant project savings.
