Autoclave corrosion tests under worse case production conditions were used for inhibitor selection. The inhibitors were tested in the presence of 91% H2S and 4% elemental sulfur in a light chloride brine/oil mixture. The test results of two laboratories using similar test conditions were compared. Based on the combined laboratory test results, an inhibitor was selected for field use.

The interaction of H2S and sulfur with the inhibitor did not affect the efficiency of the inhibitor selected. No fouling of the production equipment occurred during the test period. The corrosion rates observed during production confirmed the laboratory test results. Corrosion monitoring in the field included hydrogen probes on the wellheads and flowlines and monitoring with an instrumental pipeline corrosion inspection tool. Inhibitor residuals were monitored throughout the test period.
