Abstract
A novel electrochemical method capable of in-situ time-resolved determination of mild steel underdeposit corrosion rates is described. Monitors suitable for laboratory study and field applications have been built and tested. The results show that they can be used to determine metal corrosion rates under tubercles in the presence of commonly used cooling water treatment chemistries accurately and reliably. Using the newly developed device, treatment performance with respect to mild steel localized corrosion can be clearly demonstrated quantitatively.
