Abstract
The Elf Group today has 707 km (2,4 x 106 ft) of 13 % Cr steel tubing in service in 279 wells, including 235 oil wells and 44 gas wells. The operating conditions for these tubes have remained practically unchanged for 10 years, and the overall performance is completely satisfactory. The corrosion limits are even much higher than was believed. Altogether, the use of 13 % Cr steel tubing has led to savings of more than 500 milliion $, half of which is due to the use of 13 % Cr steel right from the initial well completion.
