Abstract
The NORSOK M-506 is an empirical model based on experiments undertaken in a single phase water flow loop. The data is from experiments with low content of iron ions in the water phase, and the model is thus regarded to give a fair representation of the maximum corrosion rate in a CO2 corrosion controlled system. The experimental data cover the temperature range of 5 - 150 degrees Celcius. The scaling of single phase data to multi phase systems is done by the shear stress. No critical limits with respect to erosion corrosion can thus be predicted by this model. The model cannot be used in H2S dominated systems or in systems with high contents of organic acids. Top-of-line corrosion or corrosion rates in pH-stabilization cannot be predicted by the model.
