The technology and construction of expandable sand screen products is introduced and benefits over traditional methods briefly discussed. The positive effects of compliant expansion of slotted expandables on formation support and product performance are detailed. The localized nature of plastic deformation and other mechanical aspects are addressed with reference to finite element simulation work. Aspects of material selection for specific environments and qualification testing for corrosion and environmental cracking resistance are also covered.
