Abstract
Bad application of drill pipe and electrical wireline inspection procedures was the main cause of corrosion failures in the presence of acid gases H2S. These failures were located in wells FUC-46 and CHL-07x in Furrial and Chaguaramal Fields at the Northern District of Venezuela. The corrosion failures were caused by SSCC and H2S corrosion mechanisms. These failures increased cost associated with operations, and caused production delays.
This paper describes the analysis to determine the cause of failure events in these fields. Recommendations were made to ensure timely detection of prior sulfide stress corrosion cracking in drill pipes and electrical wirelines used under high stress.
Thanks to these results, there were generated savings and a recovery of an estimated $2.4 MM.
