Abstract
The corrosion behavior of buried water transmission pipelines is affected by environmental factors such as soil resistivity, soil composition, pH, and electrical interference from AC and DC power sources. Several methods to control corrosion, including materials selection, use of coatings, and cathodic protection, have been developed and are addressed in this paper. Effective design and testing of cathodic protection systems associated with water transmission lines require a conscious analysis of the structure to be protected and must consider the characteristics of the pipe material.
