Abstract
For the codeposition of Cr and Si into plain carbon and low alloy steels using the pack cementation process, the importance of using a silica filler to increase the fluorine activity in a pack is treated thermodynamically and experimentally. Also, results of cyclic oxidation tests indicate a thin protective silica film is formed during the oxidation of coated AISI 1018 steel coupons, however the silica film has not been positively identified.
