Engineers involved with the rehabilitation of reinforced concrete structures are responsible for developing and implementing a rehabilitation program that utilizes the most cost-effective techniques to meet the owner's needs. Cathodic protection is one of the many techniques available for this purpose. This paper discusses the problems seen as a "purchaser" of cathodic protection systems from the point of view of a consulting structural engineer. Recommendations are made that would make it easier for other structural engineers to utilize cathodic protection as a rehabilitation tool.
