Abstract
Laboratory experiments show that chromate or vanadium oxide can be replaced as stress corrosion crack inhibitors for ethylene oxide plant carbonate loops by sodium sulfide at the 0.18% sulfur level. Transfer of sulfur species into the recycle ethylene is impossible due to the high pH of the environment.
