Abstract
For the past ten years, a unique drill pipe coating system has been utilized by the Ocean Drilling Program. Coating selection criteria, application techniques, and field performance is reviewed for this specialized drilling operation. Accomplishment of three main objectives is discussed: 1) preventing contamination of core samples, 2) preventing internal and external corrosion of drill pipe, and 3) providing a tough, abrasion resistant coating system for excessive wireline and oil tool use.
