Tubular mixed metal oxide activated titanium anodes have been increasingly used in groundbeds during the last five years. These anodes are assembled onto a cable using a mechanically crimped cable-to-anode center connection and a proprietary mechanically crimped seal. The installation of these anodes into deep groundbeds is simplified as compared to more massive anodes based on their light weight, the flexibility of the anode cable, and the electrical connection of multiple anodes onto one cable. One project using these anodes is an 82 well casing cathodic protection installation in Cochran County, Texas. The groundbeds were installed between December, 1987, and March, 1988. Another 17 bed well casing project employing these anodes was installed in Andrews County, Texas in November, 1986. Data indicate that both projects have reduced casing leak frequency.
