Abstract
The design, installation, and performance of two cathodic protection systems employing metal oxide activated titanium net anodes (LIDA* anodes) are described. Each system provides current to the external bottom of a tank that has a secondary containment polyethylene liner installed 6-18" (15-45 cm) below the tank. The net anode material is located in the narrow sand filled space between the tank bottom and the liner. The systems are providing current at a very low applied voltage, which indicates that the sand contains at least 10% moisture.
